Our Nationally Accredited Heavy Vehicle (HV) Pilot/Escort Course is approved by Main Roads WA and designed to give you the confidence, skills, and knowledge needed to operate safely and professionally on the road.
On successful completion, you will receive a Statement of Attainment issued by our RTO partner Jenagar.

Course Overview
This course is designed for people engaged in, or intending to engage in, Heavy Vehicle pilot/escort operations.
You will gain the knowledge required to perform the role effectively, including:

Understanding permits and permit conditions
-
Roles and responsibilities of truck drivers and permit holders
-
An agriculture-focused segment relevant to rural and regional operations
The units are aimed at learners who want the skills and confidence to manage situations where a pilot vehicle is required, including:

Conducting thorough commercial vehicle inspections in line with workplace procedures
-
Safely piloting or escorting oversized and/or overmass loads
-
Using pilot and escort communication equipment in line with state/territory road and traffic regulations
-
Coordinating breakdowns and emergencies on the road in accordance with licensing and regulatory requirements
-
Controlling traffic in the vicinity of oversized vehicles
-
Working with limited supervision, while maintaining a high duty of care for yourself and others
Delivery
Training is delivered face to face and can be adapted to suit your background, experience, and industry sector so you can become one of the best Heavy Vehicle Pilots in Australia.
This course provides the core foundations and applied knowledge essential to becoming a successful Heavy Vehicle Pilot Operator.

Entry Requirements
To enrol, learners must:

Be 18 years or older
-
Hold a full C class driver’s licence (not on P plates)
-
Be able to pass a commercial driver medical
-
Be able to speak clear English and read road signs
Learners will complete five units from the TLI – Transport and Logistics Training Package, plus the WA Bridge Supervision component.
This course equips you with the skills, accreditation, and confidence to perform Heavy Vehicle Pilot/Escort duties safely, professionally, and in line with Main Roads WA requirements.
